Rain X. Sp

Never heard of that type of rainX. Was going to put some on my sat dome, but said not for plastic or painted surfaces, never pursued it farther.

I'd be very hesitant. Rain X seems to be a wax in a fairly volatile solvent base.

ETA: Ethanol and isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol seem to be the primary solvents.

Original Rain-X has acetone and a small amount of sulfuric acid in it. Not good for paint.

But, they do make some car washes which would be suitable.

Just saying "Rain-X", most people will assume the original.

Rain-x should not be used on painted surfaces, just glass. They make products for plastic lenses I think but not for paint. The DO make a car wash which is supposed to not require drying the car but I think this is bogus unless your water has no minerals in it.

Sounds like someone who is confusing Rain-X with wax.

Not a chemist. My comments/advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Rain-X Complete Surface Protectant - (google it) may be a different compounding? It is for all surfaces. It does really bead based on my experience. FMCA, a fairly well respected RV organization of quite a few years, as part of its member services promotes a coupon to its members for free Rain-X Complete Surface Protectant application at Blue Beacon. Blue Beacon, besides washing some trashy trucks, also washes many that have finishes equal to or better than some RV finishes. Point is I don't think BB would be able to successfully offer, over the years, a product that doesn't do a good job or a product that chemically would harm these expensive finishes to RV owners, via FMCA, or to some pretty picky freight haulers.

My BB washed 7 y/o RV has been Rain-X'd many times over the years. I see zero evidence of any damage to the clear coat from either the Rain-X or BB in general. 90% or more of the people who speak with me about my RV are shocked, based on exterior appearance, that it is not a current year model. Maybe they are all just being courteous and kind but I think not.

JMO based on use.

I use stuff called Rain-X Wash/Wax, which is safe for paint, plastic etc. It's simply car wash/wax and is entirely different from the Rain-X intended for windshields.

Rain-X Wash/Wax is mixed with water in a bucket and applied with a sponge, brush etc. It must be rinsed off well or it'll leave soap/wax spots. It does very well with minimal effort.

So if rain-x damages painted surfaces, how do you keep the rain-x off the paint on your car when you fill the window washer reservoir with rain-x (as per its intended use)? Something not quite passing the smell test with me.

Rain-x for the washer is different than the Rain-x you apply directly to the windshield.
