RED HIGH TEMP BEARING GREASE

Just used up the last that I have been carrying since the last wheel bearing service. Am not able to find any locally. I wonder if it is still available out there somewhere ? Here is a link to the photo and narrative.

  • BEST grease I have ever used is Chrysler's green stuff. Ask for PN 5083149AA at any dealer. It's an extreme-pressure, extreme-temperature, long-fiber grease, with the consistency of warm mozzarella.
  • The color of the grease is irrelevant to its quality. Grease can be made any color. What is important is that the bases that the grease are made from are compatible, and they meet the product manufactures specifications.

I use the red high temp bearing grease in the Moble 1 brand. Got it at Wal Mart.

    It's synthetic BTW.
  • Having towed hundreds of thousands of miles and maintained many trailers from my own to fleet trailers, pretty much any grease you pul off the parts store shelf and put in the gun that is high temp, synthetic and or lithium will work the same.
I use mostly Lucas Red n Tacky but it's really not that important. What's important is making sure the bearings are greased and the seals not blown out. My last Snomachine trailer had an est 40k mi on it. Pulled the bearings for the first time before heading to AK last year and was gonna replace them. After cleaning them up and checkin them out, put em right back in and drove pretty much non stop to AK from WA with the trailer overloaded. Wheels run cool.
Just give me a few squirts of grease every couple thousand miles maybe more if you're hauling real heavy.
  • Yup, I agree with Grit, more important to have everything with enough grease and packed correctly. Just about any good high temp grease will work, lithium based may keep things cleaner. The Supers high temp red grease is a lithium product.
