Reese Elite Security Receiver Lock

We recently purchased the receiver 5/8" lock and we were curious if other users of a locking receiver have had any problems with the unit or other units like the Reese. This is due to the fact we unfortunately have met other TT owners who have had their TT receivers stolen.

Thank you.

  • I always use one, never had a problem with it but I have no idea who makes it. I bought it at walmart if that helps. :)
  • i bought the Reese security lock at walmart as well. its the yellow one that comes in a box with the locking reciever pin and padlock...it was $25 for everything if i recall correctly. im pretty sure that someone could bust it if they really wanyed to but its just one of many devices i use on my camper to keep it where i left it.
  • I use the Master lock model receiver lock, This style. Liked the rubber cover for the key hole. Works great and no problems so far.
  • I used it and it worked well.

I eventually went to a different style of pin without locking. There are other ways to secure a hitch head. Some actually pull the pin from the receiver and just pull out leaving the hitch head and draw bar attached to the trailer tongue.

Remember locks only keep honest people honest. They do nothing for a thief looking for your stuff.

    Thanks!

  • i use combination padlock - no keys to keep up with & if you use the U-Set Master Lock locks you can even set your own combination.

    simular to this -

  • I don't lock mine. I have to take it off the truck so I don't whack my shins on it. I do lock the coupler when hooked up.

I don't lock mine either; I'd probably lose the key :) I have one of those locks in my toolbox somewhere but never use it.

When we unhitch, the receiver (hitch head) get's thrown in the back of the truck under my hard tonneau. I always take the 'ol shin buster off, don't want the grandkids running into it.
