Remove (or not) racing stripe/decals 2007 RT Agile SS?

We stealth camped for 13 months in the US and Canada. We always wondered if we looked more like a plain white delivery sprinter work van (maybe with a local delivery service logo added to the doors), would we be more ignored by neighbors and local security patrols/police?

A local detailing service with a stellar reputation says they can remove the racing stripes without damaging the paint...not sure they can replace later unless the stripes are of flexible material...eg. no promises on reattaching the stripes. Given that bad guys target RVs because they know we are carrying all of our material goods on board, are we also safer from thievery by looking like a delivery truck. Also if we can't put the silly stripes back on, are we impairing the resale price because it is not the original "look"?

Anyway, we would appreciate your thoughts on this topic. Thanks a lot!

  • So you just stop along the road, curb, parking lot and make camp. If it were my beat, I'd put you on your way. Our local ordinances are in place to prevent such acts. BTW, we also have an ordinance requiring any licensed business to have their Name and Address and phone number clearly lettered on any vehicle. That includes the local real estate person or insurance salesman.
  • Perhaps have it painted camouflage with mossy oak colors. Just be sure you have some identifying way of finding it yourself less you loose it and be homeless. :B
  • If you are worried about being stealth/parking where you shouldn't then changing your logos isn't the option you need. The same can be said for your worries about logos/decals...after all a plumbers or delivery van is loaded with just a much or maybe more valuable stuff to temp thieves.

I'd bump up your security routine, find a better place to park (legally), and not be so worried about decals and logos.

The most stealthy deal might be to blend in with others in an RV park or other legal boondocking location.
  • Sure, remove the stripes if you want (we didn't...), but DO NOT add something to doors like a delivery logo!!! Now you will be viewed as a commercial vehicle, subject to a different set (ICC, etc) of rules on the road. Likely no less a target for thieves, either. My 2 cents!

  • Were you bothered by the local security patrols/police? Removing the stripes may fool the neighbors but the police won't be fooled. If you haven't had any problems leave the stripes. We often camp in store lots and occasionally on the street. We've been doing this for over twenty years and have been asked to move just a few times. We left the motorhome unlocked one time and some CDs were stolen but that's it.
  • Sign shops can decal over anything. If you have decals now they can be removed but the paint under will show as a shadow of what was there. If you don't like it YES new decals can be applied to cover the old shadows.
