roof/ceiling question

I have some of those insulation pillows that you stuff in the vents in the wintertime. My question, do any of you use them to help cut down on the heat in the summertime? Does it help?
  • We keep pillows in our vents unless we are using them. They stop a tremendous amount of heat from the sunshine.
  • We do it all the time BUT I leave the vents open-I have vent covers-because one distorted, I believe, from the trapped heat
  • Yes they keep the heat out! You can feel the foil side after using them all day in the Texas heat and you'll be amazed how hot they get.
  • They work very well, but I pushed mine in so many times it bowed the screen up into the fan. Got vents with double walls from Fantastic fan at a rally. They are great and I got rid of the little "pillows".
  • Absolutely! Unless the vent is actually open, the insulating pillows are in there. The sun beats down on the vent covers too.
  • We leave ours in all the time. Yes it does help as we usually run A/C and a think piece of plastic vent does not provide a lot of insulation.
  • I wouldn't.
Heat rises and you want it to escape up there any way it can.
