Routing App with "No Interstate" option?

Google maps has that option. You can tell it to avoid interstates and toll roads. It's under options, at least it used to be. I haven't tried using it lately.

The MapQuest app has an "Avoid Highways" setting that doesn't use Interstate Highways.

We have an old Rand McNally Trip planner for windows 32. There is nothing like it now.Going to try to reload windows 32 on the old Sony to use it. It will plan a custom rout to anywhere.
New roads have been added over the last 15 years.
It never did print out a map that went through fields, lakes, or around the neighborhood etc. If we find an old Laptop perhaps we can load the discs on it.

Thanks. I found the option on the Google Maps website but not the iPhone app.

Thanks. I've downloaded the app just now and see the option. It doesn't get great reviews but I'll give it a try tomorrow. It came up with the same route as the Google Maps website.

Good move. Getting off the Interstate is the best way to see America.

I still prefer paper maps and use the GPS as a backup.

There are some roads in New England that you for sure don't want to take a rig on. There are some of the non highway/non freeway roads that have bridges with a 10 foot clearance. Thse would make for an interesting trip

I personally use a Garmin DEZL 760LMT so that it is aware of my height, length and weight and will not send me down roads where I can get into problems because of size.Garmin sells an RV version now, which has RV attractions included. I use MapQuest or Google Maps in the toad on my iPhone. They seem to do the job, just won't warn about low clearance or load limits.

IF you are going to stick to secondary roads as much as possible then a MUST HAVE is the old stubby pencil, Rand McNally Motor Carriers Atlas. With this you can double check that you high tech gadget isn't sending you under a 10' overpass, that the roads you're using are suitable for truck traffic with no restrictions. If trucks can use it you'll be good to go too.

FYI, Mapquest tends to turn itself on even when I don't want it, using up my phone memory. A recent android update lets me disallow this... you might see if your iphone can do the same thing.
