rv seattle to SF/vegas over the summer - help

Hello every one

We are trying to embark on a great adventure and your great forum might help me.

We are starting in seattle beginning of Aug. (4th-5th) and going down the coast to SF (arriving 14-15) from there Yosemite and vegas was the original plan

We are starting a large group of 6 adlts and 2 kids but in SF 2 people are leaving. we are straggling to find a one way rental to ether SF or Vegas (cruise america only has 7 person rv max) otherwise people are asking 1600$ or so extra for one way

any suggestions on where to look? any one knows of maybe finding some one wanting to do a oneway the other direction?

Maybe using the original Zipcar business model:). I know why it was changed for the urban centers here but it was so much easier as originally conceived. Park wherever you could find a space and inform.
Great if someone so minded converted the concept to the RV rental business.

have a question:

since you are doing this, in the peak of summer, have you made campground reservations yet? especially for Yosemite?

if not, seriously doubt you can get anything along the Oregon or California coast, unless it's a private RV park.
state parks coastal campgrounds were booked up 6 months ago.

Thanks for the answer - wouldn't it have been great if there was a site that allowed you to find someone looking to do the opposite route?

I've never found a way to get around the one way fee and goodness knows I've tried:(.

Also I should point out that the longer it takes for you to make up your mind the harder it WILL be to find a larger RV; August is high season and few vehicles are around for long time frames between now and then.

Thank you guys for the answers

we are 6 adults and 2 young kids

We are with two kids so rv is a much more enjoyable during drive time
plus for a long road trip its nice to have kitchen / storage where you can control stuff especially with kids

We are all family - actually did a 10 people rv trip round from la before. also with the babies tent camping is less of an option

last - if you factor in motels + car you end up with the same money if not more

Another possibility is to rent an RV that sleeps 5 plus a car and bring a 2-4 person tent for the extra person(s) to sleep in. End the car rental in SF and go on from there. Remember that a 2 person tent is only enough space for 1 "real" person and a 4 person tent fits 2 nicely.

RV's are crazy money to rent. And to travel with 7 is one thing, but to actually live 7 would be just a gong show. Beds, bathroom stuff and then there is all the gear people bring.

If I might suggest? Look at renting a large, 15 passenger van? Lots of room..and camp all the way. You are in summer so weather should be in your favour. You could get 2 or 3- 2/3 person tents, couple coolers, clothing bags, etc and have a blast.
