We are unlike most on here and not as uptight about hotels. We enjoy the RV for some our trips, but often times it does not pay to take an RV with you. An example would be our trip a couple years ago to Los Angeles for a week. First of all, it would of taken us almost a week to drive out there and back and that would be driving 12 hours a day. I've done the cross country trip 3 times, so I know how it would be. Secondly, for the week, we spent about $2000 on the flight, hotel and rental car. It would of cost us more than that in just gas for the RV to drive out there and back. And we were there in about 6 hours, not 3 days. Our hotel was a suite and included evening meals(with beer/wine) for 4 nights of the week. We took advantage of it one night. It was a Homewood Suites by Hilton. We would do it in a heartbeat again and probably will in the next couple of years.
We have been trying to plan a summer trip for next year. We decided on a 2 week trip to southern colorado. We were strategizing and had a hard time getting over spending $1500-1800 in gas alone for round trip. Once again, spending about 5 or 6 days of it traveling out there and back home. That was including paying to stay out there or even renting a car. It's not in our plans anymore. We've opted for a closer and shorter timed trip to DC/NY. Less than half of that cost for the gas and our travel time is within a days drive at the most.
