My neighbor suggested I call our water company when I told him about filling/draining my RV tanks multiple times. I was going to drain it out into my yard. I told them I was filling a swimming pool today/tomorrow of about 150 gal. And they said "No problem" and they would disregard my water usage for 2 days. My water usage also has a direct correlation as to how much I get charged for sewage.

Huh? 1- The town I live in could care less what I am doing with the water ( wash car, boat or fill a tank. They charge by meter reading.2- Don't know how " they " can disregard two days use without reading the meter. Sounds inefficient to me. If you are using the water why would they not charge you for it?

The utility that I worked for does the same. Have to pay for the water, but saves a lot on the sewage fee which is based on water used.

Are you also going to call them when you dump your black water into your cleanout so they can bill you double?Bruce

Many communities will fill a pool free as it bleeds their lines and then they can also use your pool like a pumper if fire breaks out in the area. Personally I didn't use unmetered water. It carried too much rust.

We used to get a sprinkler credit but no more. We pay about .01 per gal. for water and .017 per gal. to flush it. If you own a business you pay a "blacktop fee" based on the size of your lot for the amount of rainwater that your blacktop forces into the storm sewers rather than soaked into the ground. On the plus side you can arrange for the fire department to fill your pool for free.

My outside spigots are connected to a separate meter (deduct meter) from the house so any water I use outside there is no sewer charge

When we lived in Central NY, years ago, the Volunteer Fire Dept. would fill them for free, not any more, the ones that still do it now get a "donation".

Same here, & after all this talk about paying for water & sewer, makes me glad of it. ;)

I am on a well and septic so I have no dog in this fight. Friend in a nearby water district pays $30.00 for a hydrant permit. Water co comes over puts a tap on the hydrant and he fills away. This is a small town of 1500 or so. I don't know how well this system would work in a city.

Some towns monitor their water systems for leaks through a system called "scada". When there seems to be high usage of water in an area, they send out a crew to look for water leaks (main line/service lines.......). Letting them know ahead of time saves them time and resources looking for something that isn't there. Been there, done that many times at 2-3 in the a.m.

150 gals would not fill my water heater twice. Last time I filled the pool after replacing liner I think it cost about 100 bucks. 30,000 gal. Why worry about 150 gal? B y the way I dump my tanks in my septic tank. No charge.

It is crazy to keep this going but here goes. Rates in my town is $2.83 per 1000 gallons of water, $5.07 per 1000 gallons of wastewater. So your talking pennies for 150 gallons.
