Looking from that angle, it's a miracle that the woman driving the RV wasn't killed! Prayers for her speedy recovery. - wnjjExplorer IIhttp://kval.com/news/local/crash-closes-hwy-58-near-lowell

The wreck was here https://www.google.com/maps/@43.9081823,-122.7539192,18.22z and the westbound truck was running downhill into a curve. - dodge_guyExplorer IICrazy accident for sure. looks to me like the semi was hauling along pretty good to get to where it was! Either the road conditions or driver fatigue, or both!

- BumpyroadExplorerI stand corrected
bumpy - fj12ryderExplorer IIIYeah, I assumed they were referring to the speed of the semi when opining that "speed may have been a factor". Considering the trailer was going fast enough to ride completely up the bank and partially onto the trestle, I think that's a very good possibility.
- DrewEExplorer III read the "speed may have been a factor" as applying to the truck, not the RV, particularly since the RV was struck by the truck as it jackknifed. It wasn't as though the RV was going too fast to stop for a truck that was blocking the road (assuming the details in the article are accurate). Nothing suggests anything negative about the RV driver besides having some very, very bad luck.
It seems to me that there's a possibility the truck could have suffered some sort of a mechanical breakdown causing it to go out of control. It's probably not the most likely scenario, but something like a steering system component breaking or even an ill-timed blowout could cause the driver to just be along for the ride.
I am impressed by the structural integrity of the semi trailer. Obviously they need to be pretty strong to carry the loads they carry, but still.... - WalabyExplorer II

just how slow do you have to go when meeting a semi? seems to me it could have been an instant situation, and she couldn't put the RV into reverse until stopped and apparently stopped by the truck.

I don't think they were specifying who (semi or RV) when talking about speed as a factor. I think that's almost a blanket statement. Speed is always a factor, maybe not THE factor.
Way I read the article, it happened right in front of her, so seems to me she was stuck and just had to ride it out.
Thats crazy.. Glad no one was seriously hurt or killed.
