Shower sealer

We are now full time in our 5th wheel, and I noticed in all my travel trailers that the top of the shower walls not the door area are not sealed to the wall, should I have a seal bead on top or is it designed to be left loose?

Will the shower steam cause mold back behind the shower walls?

Thanks for your help
  • I don't know if you'll get mold behind the shower stall, but I do know that years ago I had the same issue with our trailer and I just ran a bead of RTV around the top edge of the shower stall to seal up that area.

  • Thank you Ed i wonder why they don't come from the factory sealed , i did not want to seal it and cause any other problems:h
  • All of my trailers have had the shower walls sealed at the top but not at the bottom. This is common because the shower pan runs up behind the walls at the bottom and water cannot flow uphill. Don't know why they would not seal the top though. Seems to me that water could easily run behind the walls of the shower and cause mold or other problems.

  • Seal the sides and leave the top and bottom unsealed for venting condensation.
  • I wouldn't seal the top...it needs it to breath. In the basement of our TH I can peer up at the bottom of the fiberglass shower, and I can see the light around the top, this allows for air flow to move across surfaces and dry them.
