We live in a so called active senior adult community about 25 miles north of Tucson, elevation 3400' at the foot of Mount Lemon. Reading the Sunday paper over coffee when my bride spotted this gentleman staring over the wall into our yard. He was in our yard a couple of months ago and had returned to graze in the wash behind our house. He has a broken left front foreleg which has healed somewhat but remains swollen. Despite a pronounced limp he gets around pretty well leaping our 4' wall with ease.We sat out last night enjoying a roaring fire in the backyard fire pit for several hours entertaining relatives visiting from MA. Crystal clear night with a sky full of stars. Could have been just about any of our favorite CG's. The best part was we didn't burn any gas getting there. :B

Thank you for sharing photos of your neighbor:) You must live in a paradise...we are in a city and do have visitors due to all the creeks that are left "wild" and apparently developers can do nothing with...so far! But we'd have to go camping to have what you so enjoyed...and to get away from all the household chores;)

This is true in many places. We live on the outskirts of a small town and have white tail & mule deer, plus elk in our yard and vicinity all the time. We also have a 3 or 4 bears and a cougar hanging out in the 600 acres behind us. Always nice to see wild life in your own back yard.

That is why we never go "camping". Our back yard is quiet and peaceful with nothing within a mile. Campgrounds are noisy and hectic, only to be used when traveling or snowbirding. :)

Even in here in an old suburb the wildlife abounds. My yard is managed as habitat (water, hiding places, berries for critters to eat, etc). Two different years I had families of gray foxes as frequent visitors. They didn't den here, but the parents brought the babies over as soon as they could climb the wall. Sadly, I have not seen them in a couple of years.

Sometimes you really don't need to "go" camping...

I will never see as much wild life as I can see in my back yard any day of the week. I have a creek at the bottom of the hill and farm fields on the other side. Unlimited horizon for the sun to set into. The reason I RV is to see a different part of the country. That is becoming too big a hassle any more.

My yard is a suburban mecca for wildlife. Deer, opossum, skunk, fox, coyotes, bear in the past, fisher, lots of little critters and tons of birds. Our property borders a river and when the development was built the developer left a lot of green space. One of our goals when we travel is to see wildlife not native to our area.

Sadly, I have not seen them in a couple of years.

An increase in the coyote population will drive the fox out. Creates big competition for some of the same food sources.

One was hit by a car on a nearby busy street. The next year's fox family was a different pair of adults; they have identifiable individual markings.

I keep hoping that they are still around. My neighbor, aged 55, grew up on this block and they were here when he was a kid. I lived here for over 20 years before I saw any. It could be that just about everyone around here has dogs, which they did not many years ago.

Coyotes are the one predator we do not see around here. With both wolves and cougar here, the coyote was eradicated years back. the red fox we have are living in the most populated part of town, as they know the wolves and cougar will be very hesitant to come downtown.....
