Friday, August 1st I had a blow-out on hwy 501 jus out of Aynor, SC. I was on one of those small bridges and barely had room to get off the road. I was going to change the tire myself, but my wife was petrified of the traffic. So we decided to call Good Sams Roadside Assist. Have a membership. The traffic was bad. Had to be out in the traffic lane to work. While on the phone a gentleman of the highest caliber stopped to help. With his help, we had the tire changed in 10 minutes and back on the road. He had a 6X6 cut at a 45 to drive on to change tires. I'm making one of those!!!This guy had passed me, drove way up the road to turn around to come back to assist. He was pulling a small trailer too!When we finished, he refused any money. I mean REFUSED! Now he had picked up my glasses, even mentioned that he had them. In the hurry to get back on the road I forgot to get them. I figured they were gone for good. NOPE!This gentleman got 30 minutes up the road and realized he had them. He pulled over and waited. He flagged me down in the misting rain to give them back!I am thankful there are people like this man in the world.

Just curious. Was the good Samaritan a "Good Sam" member? Isn't that how Good Sam Club was started? I've stopped many times to help others on the road and have had others stop to help me. Always feels good regardless of receiving or giving. Thanks for posting.

Not sure if he was a "Good Sam". He was a biker type. Harley rider for sure. He drove a grey Dodge dually with cummins diesel. He was not hauling a TT, it was like an enclosed bike trailer. SC tags. Only way to thank this guy is to Pay it Forward.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I travel the area to & from Myrtle Beach several times a year & know about where you were. There is no good place for miles to pull off. Glad all worked out as traffic there can is usually bumper & from 20-60 mph.

Georgia and Alabama too. We've encountered similar Good Samaritans in those states as well. Too long re-tell here but just a note of appreciation for all Good Samaritans everywhere.

Must be something about South Carolina.

Many years ago,I had a flat on my trailer in South Carolina. A travelling nurse, his wife and mother in law stopped behind my trailer. He removed my tire and then unhooked his toad; put the tire in the back seat of his car and his wife drove me to a garage to have it repaired. He, and mother in law remained behind keeping my wife company. I had forgotten to take money with me and only had a credit card which they would not accept. She paid for the repair and refused reimbursement.

When the tire was on, they drove off wishing us a safe trip.

This was many years ago, and I still remember their kindness. Unfortunately, we did not get their names.

A suggestion - If you know the newspaper in that area. A letter to the editor might reach him or at least his home area.

But I have to ask - why did he have your glasses?

Lastly - in case you want a lighter solution than the wooden wedge with a higher rise OR you don't have the time/inclination to make one, you can buy a Trailer Aid.

My glasses were on my head and fell off. He picked them up cause my hands were full.

It was the safest place I could find at the time. Those bridges are kind of long, it looks like they go over marshy areas.

It was my first blow-out ever, been pulling that camper 8 years. Huge BANG, smoke pouring out the back. I pulled over.
