Taking a small boat along

My wife just purchased a Mini Bass I boat, about 11 ft long. It came with a trailer. We travel in a 40' motorhome pulling a Honda CR-V, and I don't want to do tandem towing for a lot of reasons including the fact that it's illegal where we live, but other than having one of us drive the car while the other drives the motorhome, I'm not sure how we could take this with us on our RV trips. It will work great for the lakes around our home, but I'd love to hear from someone who's come up with a way other than tandem towing to take along the car and a small boat.

Thanks for several good posts. It was about what I expected. We haven't used the boat yet, but it's about ready to go in the water now. And my wife has accepted that we won't try to tow the car and the boat at the same time behind the motorhome. I'm not sure how we'll finally work this out, but at least we know the options.

You said “lakes around home”. Just tow the thing. Way easier and cheaper. Otherwise get looong and flatbed or cargo trailer the crv and boat.

I've seen a number of trailers like Timmac has, most were a put the boat on first, or vehicle below needs to be removed to get boat off the trailer. The boat is raised either manually with a winch, or a hydraulic setup is used to raise the upper item, usually a boat!
Like ANYTHING you buy that carries things. Make sure you have the axles setup to carry the weight of the items plus what part of the trailer they need to carry. I have seen MANY trailers like this, where the what you can carry is equal to the sum of the axels, "ASSUMING you carry enough hitch wt, ie the wt of the trailer!" so do the math carefully when buying and designing something like this!

I have a Sea Eagle 14' inflatable that we're presently using for fishing Silver salmon in Valdez, Alaska. The boat folds up for carrying under the RV and the hard floor is held in a rack suspended under the topper on my toad. The 20hp Yamaha fits in a special frame at the rear of the pickup bed and the boat trailer, when disassembled, packs in the RV basement. We've set up the boat with 2 electric downriggers and an electric Scotty Pot Puller for pulling 2 sets of 2 shrimp pots from waters up to 600' deep. We get 16kts out of the boat loaded and run 10-15 miles through the Valdez port and out into the Valdez Narrows for folks who are familiar with the area. We can deal with 2' waves without a problem but 3 footers make for a rough, slow, wet ride.

Yep, if it's small enough to lift.

We used to take a 16' aluminum boat on top of the van as a kid. 11' shouldn't be too bad and if you set up a roller system, it should be pretty easy to load.

We have a two-person inflatable kayak. It's very comfortable and gets us out on the water for anything we want to do.

Someone I raced RC Places with towed an enclosed trailer with his motorhome. In the trailer were his small car and several RC planes. You could do something similar if you have the tow rating on your motorhome.
