LOL TRUE!!!! My brother called tonight and we talked about this. He reminded me of the time he FINALLY talked my grandmother into letting him use her car. Yes, she drove 25 mph no matter what road she was on......he jumped on the gas, blew the muffler out. Seems the carbon had built up a LOT. Boy, was she ever mad.amandasgramma wrote:
It just isn't in motorhomes. Any vehicle equipped with a catalytic convertor can have a failure.
My husband says that carbon build up in a rig can do that.......) - amandasgrammaExplorer

- mileshuffExplorerYears ago in Arizona an RV'ers rig caught fire shooting flames out from the back. Another driver pulled along side and got the drivers attention to the problem. The RV driver then got off at the next exit but stopped at a gas station rather than in the clear. You guessed it, gas station erupted in flames which then spread to the mountain side.
- amandasgrammaExplorerOH --- here's an update from the TV station....they say a "failed catalytic converter (and I can attest to sparks when that happens...I was following DH when his went out in the PU)....LINK
- amandasgrammaExplorerThe tv news says there was a "failure in the catalytic xxxxx system" (can't remember the word. They also said there were witnesses to the sparks coming out of the rig. My husband says that carbon build up in a rig can do that....... so....we'll assume they're right until we hear further. As with other things that happen, usually the story is different later on. :) :)

if pulled over and started a fire wouldnt the motorhome have burned as well?I guess they never saw that cigerette fly out a window
The fire(s) were behind the MH supposedly from sparks coming from under it while moving...not where it pulled over. - Dog_FolksExplorer

I think they're assuming a lot too. How can a spark get all the way through a long exhaust system that probably doesn't even have a strait through muffler?
Well, the story did mention an "exhaust system failure."
The story also said: "... firefighters continued to squelch hot spots, investigators swarmed the Pace Arrow, crawling under the motorhome (sic) after a tow truck lifted its front."
So I guess they took a look at it and then started the assumptions.
I wonder if they even started the motor home to determine if sparks were really coming out from it?
