I recently replaced the tires on my travel trailer that were four years old and rated at 65 psi maximum. The new tires are rated at 80 lb psi as are the alloy wheels on the trailer. I'd like to increase the air pressure above 65 psi to provide an extra load safety margin. Any problem with this? The inflation max on the trailer side plate is 65 psi, (based on the original tires, I assume). PS I did have a blowout on one of the old tires last year on a very hot day and the tire was inflated to 65 psi. Rogerck

You only need to worry about the pressure rating of the wheels. Since they were originally 65PSI, I would assume the wheels are not rated for more.

Most tire experts will say to run ST trailer tires at max sidewall pressure. It will not hurt to run yours at 80 psi. It may make your trailer ride a little rougher than the previous tires. The sticker on your trailer just applies to the lesser rated tires it came with.Jerry

I have done this with my last 2 trailers. Run them at max sidewall pressure and you will see better towing manors. It gets rid of the squishy feeling. You already said your wheels are rated for it so do it. I actually called the manufacturer of my wheels and asked and mine are rated at over 100PSI Chris

On a previous trailer I went from D rated tires (65 psi) to E's and ran them at 75-80 psi with the same rims...no problem.

If the tires are rated for 80psi and the wheels are rated for 80psi, then there isn't any problem running them at any pressure up to, and including, 80psi. Go for it.

I use the high pressure rubber snapins (100 psi) on all load E tires on my trailers just like our 3/4 and one ton trucks come with.

Yes get snap in high pressure stems or metal and run 75 - 80 psi.

It seems that high pressure valves are required for pressure above 65psi based on Tire Rack recommendations.

My previous 5th wheel had "E" rated tires and I ran them at 80psi, and they had the rubber valve stems. I don't see any problems with 80 psi and rubber stems unless you're also planning on using a TPMS sensor that attaches to the valve stem. Then I would recommend metal stems.

Run them at 80#........

After several long trips check tire thread wear.
IF more wear in center thread vs inside/outside then 80# is over-inflated for load on tires

OR......go weigh trailer camp ready and get an idea of axle weight and then check tire load chart. 80# might be OK or too much based on weight.
