- tinner12002ExplorerI just checked on the Maxxis web page and all their ST tires are rated for 65mph top speed.

ST tires are used by virtually ALL tractor trailer combinations and are designed for what they do. Smaller trailer tires share that design.
File this "earth are flat wisdom" under internet myth.
Tires on big rig trailer tires 22.5"/etc don't share the rounded profile design nor any of the lightweight ST tire internal technology according to Goodyear 1-800 heavy truck tire tech line. Tech line says a free rolling straight ribbed design is used on heavy truck trailers which is nothing like a ST tire tread design.
You are partly right. But Tread design is only ONE part of the entire tire design which incorporates many elements. The straighter or Squarer design of the heavy truck tires is due more to the weight carried.
What all ST tires do share in common is bigger cords more steel and stiffer sidewalls than comparable sized/rated tires. That is what I meant when I said they share design elements. It should be obvious to the casual observer that the job the tires do, while the same, is very different in terms of weight. - AH64IDExplorerST tires don't use the standard speed ratings. The ST designation carries a 65 mph rating as part of the designation. There is no letter for 65 mph in the standard speed rating. ST tires also don't use load index numbers.
There are some ST tires that have incorporated load/speed ratings but that is not the norm or really inline with the ST designation. Instead they should be "for trailer use only" tires.
I have always had great luck with ST's aside from rock punctures on some nasty roads. I currently run LT's for that reason but ST's were never an issue for me. I towed many miles at 70-75 mph on my Marathons using Goodyears TSB about operation between 66-75 and never had a flat or issue on paved roads. - hotpepperkidExplorer

The majority of the RVing population doesn't even know that all tires have a speed rating
That's because the majority of the RVing population never hear of RV.NET and the ones that have generally wind up confused or misinformed or both - SlownsyExplorerOr R for radial.

Only thing i can find about Maxxis M8008 is that its Speed rating is R which is 106mph. Good to go :)
My guess is that would be 106 KM's per hour, not mph! - boondockdadExplorer

GoodYear has a qualifier on their website having something to do with loads and higher inflation that supposedly increases the speed rating to 75... for what that's worth.
I wouldn't run ST tires if you paid me. Garbage. Regardless the manufacturer.
Not true. They published a bulletin which recommends increasing the pressure IF towing at >65 mph. Nowhere does it say that the speed rating is increased.
You're right.
I stand corrected.
