torn awning and broken step.

Just this weekend our awning tore right near the seam closest to the rv wall. The rip is about 12 inches long. What can i use to repair it? Right now some duct tape is doing the job, but could i use a vinyl repair kit?
also the metal bar that extends and retracts out step snapped in half. Is this an easy fix and replace that I can do myself or do i need to take it in?
  • Any shop that makes boat covers, upholstery or works with canvas should be able to fix that. Removing the rib that slides in the track and sew it back on the awning. You'll lose a few inches of length but probably won't notice it.
  • Sail patch tape makes for a good temporary fix for awning rips.
    Won't last forever though.

The stairs sound like weld repair is needed.
  • Replacing the fabric is not that expensive. Go to Ebay and search "rv awning replacement fabric."
  • Google "Kwikee RV Step Linkage Assembly" and see if that's the step part that broke - under $50.
