Towing Air Pressure

Towing this afternoon with new tires.. LT275/65R20

Should I be airing up to the recommended 80lbs? Currently at 40ish.

And all four tires right?

    Surely you jest?

  • No, I think he's serious and don't call him Shirley... Sorry, couldn't resist.
  • I'd air them to the recommended pressure posted on the truck. That's what your tow rating is partly based on.
  • I run my truck tires at 75psi front and 80 rear. The trailer tires I run at the max sidewall pressure at all times.

You can air all of them up to the maximum pressure on the sidewall of the tire. That's what I do when towing.

I don't carry the max load on my tires either front or rear towing. I air according! Fronts around 60 psi and rears 70 to 75 265/75-16 E's.
Running over aired will wear the center of the tread faster than then the outside edge. Under inflating will result in heat buildup and outside edge wear. Too much heat may result in a blowout.
