Towing Question F-150 + Gulfstream Ameri-Lite 198BH

Looking to purchase our first travel trailer.... Gulfstream 198BH weighs 2790 empty, carrying capacity 900 lbs, hitch weight 350 lbs
Tow vehicle:
2010 Ford F-150 2WD
3.55 axle
GVWR 6450
Listing towing capacity 5400 lbs

Plan to tow to local lake and at least two long trips GA-FL each year and occasional trips to Helen GA.... (hilly)

Comments please..... Do I have enough truck?
  • Engine doesn't matter really in this case..he said max tow 5400, so he's got plenty of truck.. so it's obvious the small engine, but won't likely matter.

Not that it was right, but i towed a tt that was 3200 loaded with a 3500 max tow vehicle...I think you will do just fine.
  • That’s only a 3700# unit, you should do fine. Higher rpm on the hills, as said. Just don’t stop on any mountain grades. I came around a curve once and almost ran over some clown in a MH literally crawling up a 2 lane mountain road. I had to slam on my brakes and stop and I really thought I’d blow my transmission starting again. I was pulling a 3000# TT with a 302 Bronco and otherwise I was totally satisfied with it pulling the Rockies.
