Gulfstream Conquest Ultra SE

I'm not sure exactly what your concern is. The Chevy 6.0 V8 is a good engine and provides decent performance in a class C motorhome. It has less torque and towing capacity than the Ford V10 but by most accounts has plenty of power.

I don't know how big that Gulfstream is, but in the two small Class C's I've had, the Chevy engine has been superb. Very effortless driving in the mountains.

Ford Class C:
305 Horsepower, 420 lbs. ft. torque
Chevy Class C:
323 Horsepower, 373 torque

Not enough difference there to get excited about, IMO.

Also, the 5 speed Chevy transmission on the 2005 we had was much better geared and programmed for motorhome loads & driving than the Ford seems to be, judging by the comments from Ford owners over the years.

Finally, the Chevys seem to get about 1 MPG better than the Fords. Which doesn't sound like much but it is 10-15% better.

Both powertrains are good and proven, and the Chevy works fine, as does the Ford. I am not brand loyal, but the 2005 worked so well, when we bought new in 2014 I made sure to buy another Chevy.

Unfortunately the Class C you're looking at probably has a Chevy 3500 chassis under it instead of a Chevy 4500 chassis. I say "unfortunately" because IMHO heavier duty is always better.

You can probably easier find used Class C motorhomes built on a Ford E450 chassis than you can built on a Chevy 4500 chassis.

However, if the one you've located is in fact a Chevy 4500 .... go for it!

I suspect the MH in question is a diesel Duramax, class Super C.

If so, it's a great motor and transmission. I own one of those too, 2005, in a pickup truck.

I believe you are correct that the motorhome is what most often is called a Super C. However, since the OP says 8 cylinder, I believe it could also be the 8.1 gas engine as that one was more common than the Duramax diesel. In either case the Class 5 (5500) Kodiak is a pleasure to drive. Our moderator can comment on that chassis.

You're probably right. I could not find that model designation in the brochures on the factory site. The Conquest was a Super C, and the Ultra was a Super C.

To Cockatiellady, if that is the ad for the one you are looking at, I would not buy that unit. There is delamination on the cabover on the passenger side, and some kind of repair on the rear upper corner on the same side. It has leaked water. If they say it didn't or it has been fixed, it doesn't matter. Stay away.

Snowman9000, thank you a lot. I have a Gulfstream Yellowstone Cruiser and have been trying to locate a factory brochure with no luck. You have it in your clicky in your post. Thanks again for that hard to find, for me any way, brochure I've been looking for.
