Is it your understanding along with others that your way is better and smarter without any technical reason supported by Cummins why the light throttle warm up to 150 is acceptable to ignore? Unless of course we are in agreement. If this is the case then all this was for nothing. I stated my case and no one here has answered it with a ligitimate response other than take a longer route or warm up somewhere else. The only thing I believe anyone has learned is we agree to disagree.

I've had 6 cummins Diesel engines over the last 15 years and never had one engine issue. Each and every one started and maintained in the same manner. Maybe I'm just one heck of a lucky guy. Too bad for Mr. Repair man.

Changing the way I operate my rig to please the guy next to me isn't happening. If he complains about my 10 minute run time he has too short of a fuse IMHO.

As far as Idiling out of the campground, sure if you have long enough ride. What happens when you hit the highway and still not up to temp, are you a proponent for holding everyone else back behind you until your coach warms up?

I don't care how anyone else maintains their rigs, I will do what I feel is correct for mine.

Actually Cummins don't use the term "mush the throttle down" they say "Operate with a light throttle and limited RPM until coolant temperature reaches approximately 150 F.".

If the c/g is too close to the highway to reach adequate temps prior to hitting the on-ramp, just go a little further and double back to the highway.

I agree with your sentiment though, it is your rig, and I spent years fighting for the rights of people to live in freedom.

I just hope though if you end up in a site next to a young couple that like heavy metal music you're as accepting of 'freedom' as you claim to be.

Sure, we could just have a parade through the park and bother a few more people that don't like diesels and there associate noise. Maybe stop real quick for a coffee and doughnut at the office on the way out too, maybe even get into a road we don't belong and have trouble getting out of. Actually I did post 3 times what Cummins said about using "light throttle". It seems to be ignored or tossed aside with the just idle out crowd ignoring the fact when you do hit the highway you will mush ( "my terminology") the pedal down at heat it up real fast ( not preferred).

You guys worry about your stuff I will worry about mine. I can assure you it won't be me with the loud music for all to hear, or dogs on your grass or barking, my kids on your site, you won't catch me drunk and unruly, you won't catch me telling you what to do with your stuff. What a ridiculous thread! I can't believe I wasted this much time with it, and I've been off sick while on vacation,I should have been camping until today. Had to come back early, so I'm a little cranky .... sorry if I've offended anyone.

I agree, let him idle it for as long as he wants.

My buddy is at $125.00 an hour and loves to roll in bearings that have been washed out from wet stack idling. Gravy job if it doesn't have a cross-member and it pays good bucks to do it.

It's people like this that keep the economy going. :B

Electronically controlled engines need no more than about 30 seconds to warm up. Driving a vehicle cuts warm-up times in half. The best way to warm up an engine is by driving it, while avoiding rapid acceleration and high speeds for approximately the first four miles in cold weather.

Define unnecessary. I bet that the person doing it thought was every bit necessary. So...are you right and he's wrong? Do you know more about his rig and it's needs than he does? Doe know the condition of his vehicle? Do you know its warm up requirements?

Sooo...those of you idling excessively...what kind of ADDITIVE do you use in your fuel?

The low and ultra-low sulfur fuels may not provide enough lubricant, especially at idle, and especially for older engines designed for the standard fuel.

Some of my offroad diesel equipment cautions about idling for excessive periods because of this problem.

I wonder how long it will take for the "illegal to idle to warm up your car in winter because of pollution" folks to pass similar restrictions on diesel RVs :h

I imagine there a lot of diesel operators who actually work for a living,
rolling in the isle listening to the 'Sunday truckers"
explain about how to best operate a diesel.

Sort of like someone with a riding lawnmower
advising a bulldozer operator!

I have never verified the info, but was told that endorsement was only needed for commercial vehicles/drivers. RV's are not commercial, and therefore, are exempt.
