Use of time share agent toCamp site sell

Has anyone ever used a Time Share or Campground resell agency to sell a camp ground membership? Is it worth the price to have your ad listed on their web site? Is there an alternative way to sell a campground membership? Thanks for any discussion.

People have slammed you for this, but in my opinion, you are dead on. Paying monthly fees for something that has nearly no value is throwing good money after bad. As I often say, I am no longer interested in the cheese, I just want out of the trap. And if that entails chewing off one of it's legs, the mouse figures it still has three left, which is a lot better than the alternative.

And another poster is also right on. Paying upfront for anyone to sell something for you (other than a reasonable cost for a classified style ad), is almost always a scam.

If the resell company wants money upfront they are nothing but a scam. They will take your money and you will never hear another thing from them. Then you will be further in the hole than you are now.

If the resell company takes a portion of the sale price as commission, they might be legitimate.

You can always advertise on Craiglist or list it on eBay but expect to keep the price extremely low. The timeshare market has been dead for years and resell is nearly impossible.

First, I want to thank those who made a serious response to my question. I am sure there a hundreds of RV'ers who have had a campground membership and have used its benefits to reduce camping costs over many years. It has saved us much more than it cost. We like others have now moved into other areas and would like to recover a portion of the initiation cost. It is not a "Life Time" payment obligation to pay as one writer suggested. In fact, that type of wording in a contract has been tested in court and found illegal.( State of California vs Thousand Trails) It can be dropped simply by not paying the annual fees. The membership would just disappear and could / would be resold by the campground. If a person buys a existing membership, they can greatly reduce the initiation fees. I found the following on a "How to do" web site that helps. I hope it might help others who have a membership and want to try to recover some of the initiation fees. I'm going to start by trying step one....... I would like to hear from others who have been in this position.

1 The first thing you need to do is to look for a prospect buyer. The best place to start will be the admin office of the campground to which you hold the membership because they may have a waiting list of people who are looking to buy the campgroundโ€™s membership. Also contact with the manager of the campground to inform him that you are planning to sell your membership.

2 Arbitrate a fair asking price for the membership. In order to get the best price, timing is very important. If you sell your membership just before vacations, when most families are planning their holiday trips, you are likely to get the best price.

You can ask the campground management office to help you determine a reasonable price because they have statistics of recent membership sales.

3 Advertisement comes next. Spread the word that you are willing to sell your campground membership on at least a couple of platforms. You may consider the free options first placing your advertisement in free classified services.

4 When you come across a potential buyer, follow the instructions given to you by your campground to adjudicate the terms of transfer. It would be a beneficial practice to ask the campgroundโ€™s management office for a copy of the transfer agreement. You need to know the transfer agreement details because campground membership transactions must not be done using conventional methods.

5 Once you have agreed the terms of transfer with the buyer, it is time to finalize the transaction. If the buyer is a local, meet at a public location and conduct the transaction. Having a registered notary public with you is best because the notary public can take care of any legal aspects necessary to be addressed. Prefer cash or cashierโ€™s check over personal check to collect the payment.

In case the buyer lives far off and can not meet in person, hire a lawyer who gives services in the buyerโ€™s area and authorize the lawyer to conduct the transaction of your behalf.

Man, what on earth does a comment like this hope to accomplish? Are we trying out for a part in a new grumpy old men movie?

OP, I think I'd start with an ad on Craigslist. They have a section for rvs and camping. Or perhaps contact the membership club to see if they buy back memberships. We know a couple who were able to "give up" a timeshare that way. They got no money but didn't have to pay any more annual fees. Good luck.

I had to laugh, you slam valhalla360 for asking $500.00 and you suggest giving it away for nothing. Thanks for the laugh today.

Not slamming at all. If you read the post, he said to pay someone $500 to take it away and at that price he wouldnt touch it. His post really did nothing to try to help out the OP. And, if you had actually read my post, you would realize my suggestion was to try CL or try to sell it back. My comment about friends being able to give up their timeshare for nothing as to merely show they shouldn't expect too much if they go that route. But, thanks for the good laugh! And remember, RIF (reading is fundamental)!

Sorry but it's reality. Most of these can't be given away and until you get it out of your name, you are paying the annual fees.

If you ask my advice (and that's what this forum is about), do what you can to dump it as quickly as possible and save yourself annual fees.

Several years ago we bought a campground membership at Mountain Lakes in Lytle Creek, Calif. on Craig's List......last year we decided that we were not going to be using it any longer and posted it on Craig's List and had 5 inquiries and three viable offers. Took the highest offer and had it sold in under a month.

Of course Mountain Lakes is a popular destination membership park.

I used one several years ago to sell my membership, never got one bite from them. Ended up selling it myself for the transfer fees.
