Observation: Friend was in RV park (5th wheel) in Paradise, CA.

Barely made it out - w/o 5th wheel. (Fire - 2700 homes destroyed).

Might have been able to save 5th if hooked up - but might not have been able to "negotiate" the only road out if it was.

Ya gotta do what (you believe) works best for you!

Where do you draw the line? Do I need to choose a CG within 15 minutes of hospital? Should I choose a site close to the entrance? Is my every move /decision based on what if? I think not.. I go camping to relax. I leave the what ifs at home.

Ideally for an overnight if you unhook you are parked where you can leave the truck in position to "re-hook" in the morning by just lowering the trailer hitch. But, of course, it will be the rare time that you can do that.

The key is to just be prepared. When DH's ICD fired twice one morning (meaning his heart had stopped and had to be restarted), the toad was unhooked from the Class A and I followed the ambulance to the hospital. When we returned home later that morning, a fellow camper asked me. . . "Honey how are you going to leave if he can't drive?" I said, "I will get behind the wheel like I do anyway and drive us out." She couldn't believe I could drive the big rig. And Actually now, our roles are somewhat reversed. I do ALL the driving because of his numerous heart issues. But if something happened to me, I know he could get behind the wheel and drive it somewhere if he had to. We each need to be able to do anything necessary.

So if you significant other cut an artery, you could unhook while holding pressure on the wound until the ambulance got there? Or maybe while performing CPR if it was a heart issue?

It's not always as easy as we first think.

The only certainty in this life is that you will eventually die. Maybe today. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe in 50 years. We (us that is) don't live our lives in constant worry that today might be that day. Constantly second-guessing every decision you make or experiencing pure paralysis due to fear of the wrong choice is no way to live.

Leave it hooked or unhooked...I couldn't care less what YOU decide to do about that.

It's not always as easy as we first think.

Hooked or unhooked if I'm supplying emergency first aid once the EMT's arrive and start a transport my spouses needs are being attended to. I can unhook, ride in the ambulance, do whatever. Don't think I want to go through life preparing for the worst around every corner.

While it is good to be prepared fire extinguisher and all.
I don't need to unhook for fear I may have to leave in a emergency.
I remain hooked so I don't have to do the hook and unhook drill just for an overnight. No emergency involved.
Relax People..you don't need to imagine an emergency. An emergency will find you when the time comes.
