We camped at Pismo Beach this weekend and had a good time. Traded the 100+ degree weather for the balmy 60's. DH is the overly friendly one and talks to all the neighbors. I came back from a bike ride with the kids and he's got an ice chest full of food. Apparently, the neighbors were leaving and left us with... Cheerios, Goldfish, pretzels, oatmeal, grapefruit, frosted flakes, froot loops, Granola, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, pork and beans, black beans and hot dog buns. Another set of neighbors brought extra fire wood and water balloons for the kids. I almost felt like we came home with more food than what we left with.

This is the first time it is happened to me. Have any of you had this type of experience before?

We have given away left over alcohol when staying in a hotel. You cannot take it on the plane for the trip home.

We have received and given. Last trip, had some folks give us some ice cream, milk, eggs on the day we showed up (they were leaving). We shared the ice scream with a neighbor that showed up that had his kids and grandkids visit for a couple days (locals). Used to happen more often when we had the popup as I didn't want anything in the frig so I wouldn't have to crank it up to empty it. Now with the TT, the frig runs on propane home and we bring what we brought.
Usually buy a watermelon or two mid week once I have a good cooler full of ice water with half my refreshments gone. Have been a few times where the second one was uncut. Folks are very appreciative of getting a 34 degree watermelon on a summer day as we are pulling out.

We'd have a difficult time making use of certain foods that others might give us!

The DW checks every date code and will not use anything beyond it's date code. We even throw out food we just bought if it was past it's date code on the store shelf and it was too much hassle to return it to the store.

Also, we will not use certain foods if we have any suspicion that they may have been left out of the refrig too long - such as mayonaise products, egg products, peanut butter, cheese products, anything made from milk products, any kind of meat (processed or not, cooked or not), etc..

Reminds me of my own friendly neighbors at Pismo Beach story. Years ago, a friends family and mine were just sitting around the campfire at night making Smores and drinking beer. Two guys from next door came over and asked if my buddy and I would like to go for a ride on their pair of sandrails. Having several beers under our belts, we gladly accepted, no questions asked. Several hours later, after breathing in and eating several pounds of sand, our rides finally came to an end. Although suffering from the rough, sand blasted ride, we feinged being greatful and offered our new friends a beer. During the ensueing conversation, we learned that we were invited as balast. It seems that when a sandrail gets airborn, it won't come down flat unless their is a weight in the passenger seat equal to the drivers weight.

Rented a motorhome a few years ago and it was poorly equipped. We had to buy an axe, BBQ, broom, and various other items. A couple at the next campsite was surprised when we gave them all our extra stuff before returning the motorhome.

Sorry! :B Believe me, I feel the same way. I just have to laugh sometimes because so many people are just too worried to lighten up. I got grossed out at the grocery store yesterday-a woman was eating something, licked her fingers, then started to handle merchandise. Thankfully it was stuff that was well packaged. Some try to justify their RV ownership by the fear of bed bugs in hotels, whose been sleeping in the bed, etc.,-all legitimate concerns-but if you stop and think about it there are so many things that can "get" us if you worry about them all you'll never leave your house.

Gotta love paranoia. For that matter you don't know if the guy at the ice cream shop, your waiter at Cracker Barrel or the processor at the meat packing plant that handled your hot dogs didn't do something to whatever you've bought. Chances are if they are eating it as well it isn't poison.

I always dole out the left over food when I'm done camping at the seasonal site rather then haul it back 900 miles. The same neighbors will fix supper as well.

Never had it happen camping but when we arrive or leave the condo in Sanibel after an extended stay we always receive or pass along food with the neighbors.

Generosity is in our nature it seems.
Can't remember receiving any offers from fellow campgrounders.

On our last trip I set a bag of new but unwanted RV parts out in front of our site.

A guy with an older trailer snapped that stuff up within 10 minutes.
He was a happy camper.
