Why no 2.5" receivers for 2000 Ram?

Hi,

can anybody here tell me why there are no 2.5" hitch receivers available for year 2000 Rams? Does it have something to do with chassis width? Is it a safety issue related to weight? Anybody want to jump in on this?

I'm asking because I want to know if it's advisable/possible to adapt a Curt, or some other brand, not specifically made for my truck, to my chassis.

I want to tow a trailer, with cabover camper in the bed of the truck.

Thanks
  • ETrailer.com Call the 800 number and speak to them.

They will be able to give specific advice.

Your truck probably can have a Torquelift "Superhitch" installed, it will have both a 2.5" and 2" receiver (stacked on top of each other) if that is a way you want to go.

There might be a unique reason that it will not fit, say around the spare tire or the bumper mounts will interfere with the normal hitch mounts? If you don't mind giving up the spare tire, or modify the hitch or buumper mounts, I am sure that something will fit.

    Fred.
