working in alaska

Fairbanks? Winter? Not a chance, WAY too cold! I would take the trade of heavy snowfall of the coast (10ft in Valdez) over the -70 of the interior any day.

WOW Valdez seems to be way too far from where i would actually want to be (as close to Denali as i can) but this would be my first time heading to alaska. better to ask now than find out latter. lol what types of jobs do you think are in abundance in valdez? i will look at craigslist later.

Before you go any further, you might want take a look at some weather information in areas that you are looking at.

i'm not really sure why alaska, the short answer is i have been stuck in florida for toooo long and want to be somewhere cold. i don't think it would be the same, say in Nebraska for the winter for example.

Hahaha, with the wind we get here in the winter it is sometime MUCH colder than Alaska...

i agree totally, but mount denali is not there either. i would really like seeing the alaskan winter change to spring.

I don't blame you. I have been up there during the winter months while in the Air Force, it was awesome, hope you have a great time!!!

I was an FAA Approach Controller at Eilson AFB in 1968 and it was -61 for a week straight! Plus in those temperatures you get Ice Fog on the highway. Are you sure you just want to see it go from winter to spring? If you are from Florida I don't know if you really realize how cold it can get.

To remain on topic, your job opportunities will be slim to literally none, especially in the Fairbanks area over the winter, where NONE would be the prevalent.

That being said, and just to clarify, are you intending to take an RV up? If not, why would you be posting here? If indeed you are, you are nuckin' futs!

I lived in FL for 20 years before we went fulltiming 13 years ago. My skinny ass starts shivering at about 60F and my comfort zone is 84F. In my lifetime I have experienced -30F and I'm here to tell you that that will NEVER happen again. If the next ice age cometh, I goeth!

And BTW, I have worked in AK, but only between May and September, both shoulder months a bit too cold for me, even in SW. (Skagway).

i am not originally from florida i was born and raised in new england. i am familer with snow ice cold and everything associated with that. i do plan on going there with my rv. i have been called crazy for thinking of alaska in the winter and know its not "normal". i hate the heat here and has been way too long to experiance seasons here. i want to so something extreme. i thought i would find some job delivering for a store by snow machine. lol
