I have personal relationship's with inanimate objects, just kind of weird that way. Some people their rolling stock is just transportation or temporary housing, but to me it's much more.
Last fall we bought our 2003 GMC truck at auction and the previous owner left every receipt including the original bill of sale and window sticker. They also left some medical and legal paperwork in the truck which detailed a brain tumor and being declared legally incompetent. I wrote the surviving spouse how much we were enjoying our new truck, and how lucky we felt to have found a well cared for truck that would serve us for many years to come. I asked nothing in return. Never did hear back though.
We have maintained a relationship with a family that bought our 1998 Arctic Fox travel trailer, though that was a private sale, not through a dealer trade.
I fixed up an older truck camper and the previous owner was so happy to hear from me and see pictures of their old truck camper getting a new life in our care.
My Dad sold his 1973 Travelall in 1984 and I stayed in touch with the owners and in 2007 they gave me the Travelall back in mint condition. Hemmings Motor News saw my pictures on the web (link in my signature) and recently contacted me because they are writing a story about SUV from the early 70's and wanted to feature my truck.
So long as you aren't complaining or asking for anything in return I say it's OK to send a letter, but I wouldn't call personally. Hans
