Help with Planning Finger Lakes Trip

Need some help with a Finger Lakes trip. At this point we’re planning to spend a couple of days at Letchworth State Park and then go to Watkins Glen and use that as a central location as we visit Odessa, Corning, Hammondsport, Interlaken and Ithaca. Is that doable or should we add a third park? We’re totally unfamiliar with the area and although I am doing A LOT of research I know there’s nothing like first-hand information and advice. Thanks for any and all help!

Thanks so much for the offer though. We're looking at the Clute RV Park as a central point and then roaming each day from there. Not exactly sure how many days we'll need though so I'm still researching! There's just so much to see and as I doubt we'll be back anytime soon I want to see as much as possible.

Nope, you'd be boondocking. He has an annual harvest party and people camp there, but it is dry camping.

Good luck planning your trip. It is beautiful up there.

Oh my word! That is beautiful. While we would love to stay there I'd bet it would not be FHU and for several days we would need that.

A friend of mine owns a vineyard in Interlaken with views of Lake Cayuga. He rents out a room via AirBnB but alos has plenty of room on the property for an RV. Not sure if he'd entertain letting you set up there but you can ask. This is his AirBnB listing.

I can give him a call if you'd like.

Other choices in Watkins Glen. Clute Park is a city owned park. You could check them out as a place to roam from. Nice place and across the street from a beach on the lake. There is also a KOA in the area.

We just came through the finger lakes last week. Beautiful area with lots of hikes and scenery. Letchworth was fantastic. Our family really enjoyed it and the sites are nice. We wanted to go to Watkins Glen next but our large tt wouldn't fit on any sites according to the online booking. We did a day trip to the park and drove through the camp area. Very nice, but tight for bigger trailers. Mostly tenters and a few small motor homes. It was a really nice park, wish we could have stayed there. The roads in town are very busy and traffic was usually backed up. The trails along the gorge are spectacular.

We ended up booking down the road at RH Treman SP. Nice park but the camping area wasnt my favourite. Some nice sites if you can get them or maybe you're not as picky as I am. Ours was on the back elevated road which overlooked the sites below. It was a bit tight and the section is one continuous gravel pad with little privacy. The lower road is along the large playground which was full of day use people with screaming kids. (It's supposed to be for campers only). Non hydro sites were mostly an open field with no shade. The water spigots were not near the road either. They were located at the back of a few sites, to be shared, but it meant walking through yours or other people's sites to use them. Very odd.

The waterfall and swimming hole were nice and the playgrounds are great if you have kids and you don't mind the noise. Decent enough place for a base camp and close to Ithaca.
