Glad to see the last couple of posts about not all dogs being friendly with other dogs. My blue heeler is one of those. We have had her in training but it didn't do a whole lot. We are just careful when outside. She likes people and absolutely loves children and has been great with our grandkids. It is just other dogs she has a problem with.

I read about a yellow ribbon movement where the yellow ribbon on the leash means doesn't play well with others. I put it on her leash but I must be the only one who read that article. Even when I move away, many people chase us to let their dogs say hi. I have to ask them to stop and explain that she is onery to other dogs. Don't know what else to do.

Because this is what some have seen

NOW don't go and get up in arms. I'm not implying that your dog is like that by any stretch of the imagination.

But when you say 'Pit Bull, Rottie, Dobie' the above image is what folks conjure up in their minds.

And YET Dalmatian brings to mind a tail wagging happy firetruck partner. Which is BS. I've owned 2 Dalmatians.
Both where great family dogs..loving 'velcro' pets.
NOT so friendly to outsiders/other dogs!

Is it time for your medication or mine?

We travel with a American Staffordshire Terrier and have been asked once to leave a RV park because of our dogs breed. Despite the fact that we had been going there for 3 years, new management. Most people once they meet our dog end up being ok with her as she is fine with all dogs and works with kids as a therapy animal. That said many breeds get prejudged by appearances and any dog can act aggressive. One place we go to has a dog policy but I faxed over my dogs behavior assessment paperwork from her therapy group and the owner approved her. Her picture is on their website now, breed ban and all go figure. Parks have bans but I highly doubt the irresponsible dog owners are running around in motorhomes visiting RV parks with their dogs, this is pushed by insurance companies feeding off media hype. Also owners need to understand not every dog wants to meet your dog. Remember adopt don't shop too!

I can't help but notice some rottie love going on here.

I will try and stay away from any park with any type of pet restrictions. We are now with our second rottie. I almost did not get another one because of the grief we were given by some people. Then I though nope I'll get another and continue to show that they do not typically eat every child they see. The park we spend a lot of time at has a picture of my rottie on the wall right behind the counter. They absolutely love her.

I know this isn't a rottie picture thread but...........

Here she decided to put on my wife's sweater. Yes she did this by herself. Her head is through one of the sleeves.

That is what I am talking about, the governor of Utah just signed into law that no local jurisdiction can impose BSL and times are changing. Campgrounds aren't going to push out well behaved paying customers with their dogs, bad for business. I seriously doubt in the last year a single RV park paid out a insurance claim for a dog bite. Big dogs rule and little dogs speak for them. Camp and have fun.
If he was going to bite someone he would have done it before you took the picture.

I try to educate people about Rottweilers every chance I get. It is funny to see the look on peoples faces when they see their children come running up to my dog to pet him. I just tell him to sit and then tell the kids one at a time so he dont get excited. I always make a point to tell them to remember the experience when they hear of local govt trying to bring on a breed ban

I never had a problem with my rottie and collie when I made reservations, probably because of my Collie, Rottie was welcomed everywhere. Times have changed the past few years, Now I have five Chihuahuas with my new collie. A lot of people call them ankle biters....not allowed in my pack....even the vet is happy when they see my little ones. All very well behaved and loving.

We travel with our brindle Amstaff to many campgrounds. We have had a few campgrounds ask her breed and tell us that she is restricted. Once they meet her they say no problem. Our dog is a certified therapy dog(not a service dog) and one owner had us fax over her behavior assessment paperwork. We have been to many campgrounds and haven't had any issues. As a matter of fact our "pit" type dog is usually a favorite. If certain dogs are an issue at a place we'd like to try, then not worth our money or time. Just over the weekend our dog delivered a kissing attack to a 5 year old. I've had people cross the street and pick up their barking 5 pound dog as my dog quietly and calmly walks by. The fact of the matter is that most dogs with issues aren't at campgrounds. Those owners are too irresponsible to take them out for training and socialization. I always make an effort to introduce my dog to staff and say hi. My dog is welcome at places that have bans in place. Plenty of places to camp, go and have fun.

Being a Rottweiler owner, I run into this stuff all the time. I cant take my dog to town and take him for a walk on the safety of a sidewalk. I am stuck walking him along the side of the road in the country where morons have never heard of slowing down for people walking. When we go camping there are always uneducated people that freak out when they see me walking Gus. "Run for your lives!!! Hide the women and children!!!" I actually have an edge when we go camping. The host loves my dog and usually stops to play with him for a few minutes on his rounds.

I say get the dog you want and plan ahead. Most of the time you are going to only find trouble when you have a Pit, or Rottweiler. In all my years the nastiest dogs I have ever ran across were Chows, and Dalmatians of all things. I would be willing to bet that every one of those had no proper raising, or spent their life on the end of a chain with no attention at all.

It was started by peta lobbying and reps that no nothing zip zero about dogs and blindly going along with it and bills got passed that left the insurance companies no option. And thereby the CG's having no option either. ๐Ÿ˜ž

And there are more restrictions in line to be passed as we speak.:(
