Pet safe RV steps????

I just purchased an RV with 4 steps, my old one had 3 steps and I had "Outrigger Step Rugs" on them. I kept the old rugs and planned to order one more and install them on the new RV in order to cover the small round "toe nail catcher" holes in each of the four steps. Great idea, except when I put the rugs on with the springs, I can not fold up the steps. Doesn't work with cable ties either.

Are there any kind of adhesive backed step covers on the market? Doesn't have to be carpet, just some thing to cover the holes on the steps and that would not fly off going down the road.

Will appreciate any suggestions.
  • Usually you can buy adhesive-backed non-slip stair treads. Those should work, stay put, and protect toenails?
  • You might be able to lower you steps. Mine have three positions that you can unbolt to adjust height. Look at where your steps connect to the trailer, you may be able to lower them 1 notch so that they can fold up and fit with the carpet.
  • I found there are a couple of types of carpet covers for RV steps Some are way thicker than others and some cover all the way across and some leave a margin on either side.

The thinner one that does not cover all the way across will allow the steps to close.

This is what I would recommend as well, you can pick it up at a hardware store. Just make sure the surface is very clean and dry so the adhesive sticks well.
