A/C Generator Test

I have run my 15k A/C on the generator on a couple of occasions. But only for short periods of time. I just started the A/C on the generator with a full tank of gas to see how long it will go. One of the shortcomings of the Champion GAS generator is the small gas tank. So, hopefully, it will be running still at 9pm Pacific time. I'll let you know. I did put the plug through the Kill-A-Watt. About 13.5 amps for the A/C and fan on high. It was showing about .2 amps before the A/C went on.

The one BIG advantage of the HONDA over all the others is the fuel handling system, they have a genuine fuel pump and the tank is 100% sealed till you open the vent..

Well you can replace the cap with another they sell and add an "Extended run" tank to the Hondas.. In fact, if you wanted to it's techincally possible to use a 5 or larger gallon fuel supply.

Far as I know only HONDA can suck gas out of a can.

Nope... The champion can also be set up to do the same (sell the kits on Flea-Bay).

My little Champ (2000 watt) has a double fuel shutoff, one on the cap and another on the front panel. I keep it inside the RV with no smell whatsoever.

The Honda has a vacuum operated fuel pump that works off crankcase pressure differential, the same one can be added to the Champ with the same results.

The preferred method is using an outboard motor gas tank. Much safer.
Just because they sell kits, doesn't mean it works well. They have sold kits for the Yamahas too. Probably still do. But it is well known that with out a fuel pump, those setups are unreliable.
Never heard of adding a fuel pump to a champion.
    Let alone a Honda pump.

Except they do work on the Champion!!!!
  • In our 90 degree plus heat today, it went for a hair over 5 hours. For our purposes, that's fine. If we stop part way to our destination, we don't sleep for 8 hours, we get 4 or 5 hours and get on our way again. If I needed longer, I would get a generator with a larger gas tank and sell the Champion. But, I don't think I do.

Nope again, my powerhouse has a fuel pump and can suck fuel from an external tank

  • My guess is 4.5 hrs on full tank running the A/C I have a 3100 and love it I get 4.5-5 hrs running A/C and TV and some lights.

Don't let the Honda guys try to sell our champions short. Extended run kits are easy and cheap to add same as the little red ones.
