AC starts and runs on its own, won't turn off

I moved the thermostat to “Gas Heat” to take the morning chill off, and then moved it to off. About 15 minutes later, on its own, the ac compressor and fan started running. I raised the temperature setting well above the room temp. It didn’t turn off. I moved the thermostat back and forth. It kept running even when moved to gas or electric heat. It only turned off when I carefully positioned the switch between cool and off. The thermostat is printed with “RV Comfort.HP Coleman Match”, for single stage heat pump. It came installed with the coach and is about 3 years old.

I’m guessing I need a new thermostat. Before ordering a new one is there anything else I should check first?
  • While you are waiting for a better answer I'd pull the t/s, figure out what wiring goes to what device ie. heat or a/c and disconnect them from the t/s. Then I would jumper them (between heat and power or a/c and power) one at a time to see what happens. Use alligator clips or something that stays connected by itself to get around any delays in starting. If all goes well it's the t/s which it probably is anyway.
