Adding more batteries
Good Afternoon all!
Fully charged my 2 x 6v batteries in my class A work well and provide me 208AH (104 usable). I have 300 watts of solar that works great in the summer to keep me going however in the winter I have to add a little bit of generator to the mix... well so i'd hope. My boondocker converter never seems to go into bulk charging for more than a few minutes at a time so charging with the generator works out to be about the same as charging with the weak solar that I get this time of year.... so I'm left with using the generator after dark for hours on end.. and that is something I refuse to do as it defeats the purpose of boondocking in nature (in my mind)
So that leaves me with another option.. add more batteries. Now its not going to help with my charging situation but it will allow me to do weekend boon-docking trips without the worry of running the batteries too low.
Right now i have my 2x6v batteries under the top step of the coach. Currently there is zero space for larger batteries or more. However there is a bin directly next to the battery bank that I could add batteries to and also drill vents. When I say directly next to I mean the batteries would be 2-3 feet from the existing batteries.
What is the best way to approach this so that I have a balanced battery bay? Should I move ALL batteries into the storage bay? Should I run really thick wire to the bay and just add 2 batteries? Should I add a single 12v battery to give me a little bit more AH boost?
Any thoughts?
While I am at it.. anyone know how to keep a boondocker converter into boost? I've emailed bestconverters a few times and never heard back. I was down to 50% SOC the other day and couldnt get a bulk charge for more than 5min.
