AGM batteries vs flooded wet cell deep cylce

Just be sure your RV CHARGER is ok. Overcharging flooded is ok if caught before water gets below plates. Overcharging AGM causes them to vent, then you just buy new ones.

Easy. I have space for 2 x GC 6Vs 220AH.

POS: I want to make coffee, run the MW to make breakfast and reheat coffee and make toast in the toaster oven in the AM during quiet hours. If I only do one at a time, I can get by on 1250W max over about 30 minutes total.

NEG: I don't want to deal with acid mist, Hydrogen gas and adding water because I want the batteries under my bed.

What thickness positive plates do I need? :)

Red/Blue/Yellow designate the termials. (optima)
Red, automotive
Blue, marine with both stud and auto
Yellow, stud

Otherwise dark grey case is starting, light grey case is starting/deep cycle.
All red are dark grey, all yellow are light grey. Blue can be either.

My D31T had just 3/8" studs.

Nope! The Blue and Yellow specs are identical because they share the same case. The BIG difference is the Blue has 5/16" posts and the Yellow has automotive side posts.

IMO for part time use 70% discharge is fine on either. Charging fully soon after is what is important.

Twice the cycles? I doubt it in similar conditions.

I have used Costco GC2 and Optima D31T.

I installed 2 blue top Optima AGM batteries in our rig over 10 years ago and they still work just as good as they did when new. Our battery compartment and cables look just as good as they did 10 years ago.

It seems net costs are about equal for both AMG and FLA. The main difference does one have the up front cash vs dealing with FLA messes.

"Better" depends on how you intend to discharge and charge your batteries....
- What loads will you be operating and for how long?
- What is your daily power budget?
- How much total battery capacity do you want?
- How will you be charging and maintaining your battery?
- What is your budget (in dollars)?

It is my opinion that most RV owners are best served by (pairs of) 6V golf cart batteries. They are economical, long-lasting, offer tremendous capacity, very tolerant of abuse (if simple maintenance is done), and easy to charge.

I have 3 Odyssey (EnerSys) PC2150 AGM's in my camper and I think that they are amazing !!! But I also have some unique power needs, plenty of solar, and a high-current, programable charger. For me they are "(much) better and (well) worth the cost".

With regard to the Diehard Platinum (EnerSys) VS. Energizer (Johnson Controls) AGM batteries... The answer will depend upon your definition of better?
- The Diehard has higher capacity, more cranking power, lower internal resistance, true deep-cycle design, longer warranty, nationwide availability, and are manufactured in the USA.
- The Energizer is less expensive.
Both require special charging considerations to achieve their full capacity and service life.

Optima batteries were good once upon a time. But when Johnson moved their manufacturing outside the USA the quality went down considerably. Today they are among the worst choices for an RV house battery.
