AIMS Power inverter/charger

WARNING!!!!!!
Do not waste your money on this company's products. I have their model picoglf40w12v120v inverter/charger. It only works properly sometimes and has never worked when I needed it. I sent it back to the seller for repair and they said there was nothing wrong with it. They said that since nothing was wrong I was obliged to pay the freight back. It still doesn't work. It allows the batteries to go down. Does not switch to shore power consistently. Does not invert at 60hz when set to do so. Does not produce the advertised 4000 watts of power. The cooling fans run constantly even when the batteries are fully charged and the shore power is connected.
  • I don't wanna comment on a company I know nothing about.

but www.Bestconverter ...I highly recommend. Randy called me an gave instruction on installion and upgraded unit..

a merry Christmas and happy new year
  • Thanks for joining to warn us.
Do you think maybe you have an install problem?
Loose wires at either end of the circuit?
What happened that you needed a new inverter in your rig?
Are the batteries in good shape? Have they been tested.

What kind of rig did you install this in?
  • It could be a glitch in your set-up with transfer switches, wiring, etc and not the unit itself. If you can describe your set-up or post a drawing is even better, maybe somebody can spot what the trouble is.
  • Stand alone components are often cheaper than all in one and tend to be a bit more reliable.

I had a cobra 2500 watt MSW inverter that I pushed HARD for 5 years. I moved up to Magnum 3000 PSW and it has more features--but it caught on fire last summer. They did replace it, but it concerns me.

I have been using their 600WATT PSW Power Inverter PWRI60012S since 2009 without any issues...

Has been my so called work horse Power Inverter always ON and is used in my OFF-ROAD POPUP camper setup to power up many of my low power 120VAC required items like Battery Chargers for cellphone, tablets, and computers. Also used for my WX Radio and many of my 120VAC Ham radio support items...

I ran a 120VAC long multiple head drop cord from the Power Inverter that is mounted close to the Battery Bank with one cord going to the Home Entertainment items and the other power cord going back to the Bed area nite stand.

I know this is apple and oranges compared to the 4000WATT setup you are referring to. This would require many batteries to operate it off-road... More than my 255AH setup haha...

No complaints from this end with the AIMS product... Planning on ordering a new one from AMAZON for my Battery Bank upgrade I am currently working on...

  • No offense, but with all of the problems you claim and the factory finding nothing at all I'm with the others suspecting an install problem. You have listed tons of complaints on the unit but provided zero information on the install itself. Answering the above questions as well as providing information on the batteries and even the size of cable will help allot

X 2, not to say that the inverter was problem free but diagnosis could reveal fault elsewhere - my previous inverter was Aims PSW 1500 and always worked fine...
  • 4000 watts on 12 volts is asking for trouble.
    What error does it give?
  • Aims is not a "stellar" maker such as Victron, Outback, or Magnum, but any inverter can fail.

However, since it passed testing by the repair center it may be a DC or AC wiring problem at the end user level.

What size battery bank (amp-hours)? What size cables to the Inverter, and how long is the run? How is it connected to the RV?
