- MN_BenExplorerI found a new muffler for about $120 from norwall.com. I was expecting the muffler to be wrapped in a heat sheild and insulation like the old one. but it wasnt.
After soaking the old nuts and bolts for a week I was finnally ready to tackle the job. I was not able to reach two of the muffler flange bolts so out can=me the sawzall. I ended up drilling and tapping new threads on the generator exhaust flange and used stainless bolts with plenty of anti sieze.
the new muffler does not have the turn down tail pipe so I will most likely get one for it.
I am glad I went with original equipment as this muffler is beefy and very quiet. I could hear more of the generator engine noise than I could the exhaust.
Here is pics of the old and new... - MN_BenExplorerThat looks like what is on mine. Although mine is wrapped in insulation inside a tin jacket. Probably some type of heat sheild. Commins gave me part #541-0618. It is the "kit" including nuts, bolts, gasket, clamp, and pipe. The muffler is external.
Now that i have the part number, i can search the web some more. Ebay was some of the highest prices listed the other day.
Ben - Chris_BryantExplorer IIIs that an external muffler? About the best prices I have found on Onan stuff is http://www.partsfortechs.com/- they have the "standard" side entry Onan muffler for $70 here- that might not be the right one, but it would be worth it to check with them.
- TEXASExplorerSmall engine shop or try Ebay. They show up there at times.
- MN_BenExplorerI wonder if i can find somthing at my farm store. Cummins quoted me $139 plus 20 bucks shipping.
- Dick_AExplorerCan anyone else help Ben out with this issue?
- MN_BenExplorerMaybe i should have asked in the truck camper forum. I think the issue would be more common. I sent an email to cummins web site, hopefully they will respond on Monday.
- Joe417ExplorerThere's some post here somewhere about adding a different muffler.
I couldn't find them. Maybe a year or 2 ago.
There are a couple of demos on utube.
I remember a number like $40.
