Awning installation and leaks

I resealed the roof on my class c motorhome over the summer. While working on it, I discovered that the gutter where my awning attaches couldn't drain - lag bolts for the upper awning brackets were installed directly through the gutter, completely blocking it. Whenever water built up it probably seeped through the holes, following the lag bolts into the wall.

I moved the brackets up about an inch, reinstalled the lag bolts above the gutter and sealed the original holes with Dicor. I think that fixed the leak, but now the awning support arms don't fold up completely.

So, two questions: is it normal to lag right through the gutters and block them when installing an awning? Is there some adjustment I can make on the Dometic awning so it will fold completely? I'm not seeing it anywhere online.

the lenght adjustment aka lower stop bolts under the lift handles
must be moved up, so the arm sets at a higher position

This- just raise the stops on the lower arms.
  • I think the easiest solution would have been to drill a couple holes in the gutter to let the water drain out.
