awning replacement

I am replacing the white awnings above my slideouts. On my long slides (14 feet or so ) the awnings are flexing enough so that they are rubbing the trim of the slides while driving. Over time the awning material rubs through the paint and into the aluminum trim. The aluminum trim oxidizes and I am getting this black mess all over the white awning. From that I can tell I need to put some type of spacers behind the brackets that hold each end of the awnings to get the material further out from the trim. Has anyone noticed this problem on their motorhome?

Thanks

Had to install them for the very reason you mentioned. Don't know what maker of topper you have, but the larger companies maker cradles too:

Topper Cradle

Carefree of Colorado makes a variety of center supports as does Dometic/A&E. Just have to hunt for them/call tech support to get more information.

Also this slideout awning does not have an aluminum shield when rolled up.

I just looked at the awning. With the slide extended it looks like the center of the long awning is flexing toward the slide because of spring tension and the pull of the awning material. I have used the above support for large patio awning to support the weight while stored but I have never used this on a slideout white awning . It might work . I am not sure but thanks for the suggestion.

If they aren't armored/enclosed styles, you could use one of these or its variations:
