Burner valve upgrade?

The range in my TT has 2 regular burners and one hi btu burner.

The regular burners are nothing short of a pain to use on low, as low and off are too close. The hi btu burner has low at the stop, so you cannot go too low and shut off the flame.

Has anyone changed valves in their range?

It a maytag CLY2220BDB.
  • Yes, w/o looking, I believe its like posted above, 270 degree turn, verses 90 degree. And the front is hotter too I guess.
And now I remember, we changed out the cooktop in that flair, the only reason it had all 3 good burners. Actually ditched the stove for a cooktop only, then put shelves underneath where the oven was.

Anyway, I too would love to change out those 2 back burners, if it dint cost the price of a new stove.

Now I understand. I just had never heard of that type control on the back burners.

  • I just went and took the burner manifold apart and the big valve and small valve are identical (even have same stamping) so the differences are internal. The sealing surfaces are the same, so I know I can swap them out.

I will call may tag tomorrow and see if I can get the part number for the valve with 270° of rotation vs the 90° on the small one.

So you are saying that if you keep turning the back burners down they will go out as opposed to the valve stopping and you stll have a very low flame showing?

Yes, the line is very fine between low and off. Full on is high, then it tapers down to off on the back burners.

The front burner full on is extra low, and increases until you get past "light" and then it's off.

I have been looking at those, just not sure if anyone has tried it.

I am guessing the 91 means 9100 BTU's and therefore the extra one I would want, but it's an $$ mistake if it's the wrong one.
  • my two back burners work the same as you described your big burner works. Also my big one works as yours.

  • Probably there is more than the valves which would need to be replaced, most likely the burners and other parts would need changed.

I would think you might be further ahead to buy another stove which does not have those features..
