Duramax Allison and get on down the road.

You would be surprised at how many of those I pass on long upgrades and steep hills towing trailers my size or smaller with my Dodge Ram 2500 5,7 L Hemi. and its six speed transmission.
Ya you can get on down the road but slower. jackbuck wrote:

I'll second the motion! I love my Aisin equipped HO Cummins! :B

- buckyExplorer IIWhat year/version Cummins are you asking about?
- romoreExplorer IIThat was an issue when they first appeared in the D and W series pickups but has been long since resolved. The Cummins is darn near bulletproof, would be a nice combo with the Allison in a Chevy.:B
My new bride had enough of my trucker buddy who although a great guy is a bit of a know it all. She opined that although the Cummins is a great engine she wasn't sure about the Allison transmission (she knew squat about either). His mouth dropped, he stared at her then realized she was jerking his chain. I had to stick my fist in in my mouth to keep from laughing - NinerBikesExplorerAudi had the same problem in their 5 cylinder in the Audi 5000 turbodiesel... Overheat number 5 and you turned the motor into junk.
- dons2346ExplorerIf you are talking about the 5.9, do not over heat it. In fact, do not even get it close. The rear cylinder does not get cooled like the other 5 and can lead to a premature failure

(this is going to be fun) - donn0128Explorer IIWhy would you want an Allison?
The Ram 68RFE automatic is every bit as good, and by some reports are actually better than the Allison 1000 that GM uses.
