Dash cams

Z edge z3 has been doing great for us the last 8 mos. I took a magic marker and colored the silver ring around lense to make it less noticeable as it's mounted behind mirror, it actually fit there so it's hard to see.

yes, batteries can go dead. such is life. but you stand about a million times more in danger of a cell phone battery bursting into flames than a dash cam. I can't remember ever reading about one catching fire.

Heat?

My dash gets hotter than blazes. Any issues there?

From what I have read, lithium ion batteries, don't appreciate the heat, and they will go bad quicker than usual, and once the battery dies, SOMETIMES even though the cam is plugged into 12 volt power it effects video quality. But most people are afraid of Lithium Ion battery thermal runaway situations. I have only seen that happen in experiments where the battery is subjected to extreme heat (one test was at 750 degrees) and of course, my cellphone and my sons cellphone started to expand because of the lithium ion battery issues some cellphones had

Minor correction to my previous post. My front unit is hardwired. The unit in the rear of my Honda Mini-van is simply plugged into the rear "cigarette lighter jack. Both are switched On/Off with the ignition. I don't even think about them any more.

+2. Same here except mine's not hardwired. Great little cam. Bought a reconditioned unit at Amazon.

I just bought an Auto-Vox. Now if I could figure out what fuse to tap I would install it. I don't have a fuse box diagram for my E450.

x2 on the Edge. Have been using one for about 6 months and been very happy. Bit of a learning curve to use it but once past that, very simple.

Unlike a Cell Phone, rarely are Dash Cams receiving all their power from the battery. Usually they are drawing their power from the car/RV with their internal batteries just receiving a float charge.
