I would think the 120VAC circuit breaker in your power center would have tripped for it. Those kind of electric heaters sure draw alot of power to operate. They are neat to watch however...
I suspect the electric heater section has overloaded some wiring inside the dimplex heater which will need replaced. The flame display section is nothing more than a rotating drum with a light bulb in it so no heat involved around the flame display. We have another name brand here and it draws too much power with the heater on and trips breaker so we just use it for display only. Keeps us warm and snug hehe (Mind over matter I guess)...
Hopefully you can pull your unit out and inspect the wiring inside of it.
