Dometic fridge - how do you get the baffle out of the flue?

I have 1991 Class C with a Dometic Silhouette S1621 fridge. When plugged in the fridge is perfect. On Propane, it still works well, but not as well as on electric.

I believe the fridge was replaced around 2003, but it could be original. Everything in the gas/burner section has been cleaned and/or replaced and the control board was replaced with a Dinosaur. (It didn't work well at all prior to these steps).

I believe the last piece of the puzzle is to clean the flue/baffle. Looking up from the bottom the baffle and interior of the flue look fairly gunked up. So, pull the baffle and clean, right?

This is a standard chimney on the roof model. Looking down through the roof opening, the condenser fins block most of the opening. No way to get a hand down there. The top of the flue resides about 12" below the fins. There is a cap on the flue preventing access to the flue. An inspection mirror shows that under the edge of the cap is a wire across the top of the flue (which would go down to the baffle) that needs to come out through the top to remove the baffle. According to the manual the cap is secured by a screw (I would guess on the side of the flue, but it is not visible even with an inspection mirror, much less accessible to a screwdriver even if I *could* see it)

So am I missing something? The manual says the flue and baffle should be cleaned "at least once a year". Does Dometic expect me to pull the fridge out every year to do this?
  • If it has a top vent it is cleaned from the top, using a 3/4 inch round wire brush after pulling out the flue.
If its a side vent the refrigerator must be removed to clean,.
  • well on my side vent theres room to pull it out, and on the op,s unit that top comes offf maybe the screw was lost ,but top off pull up on the wire it should pop out.
  • If you have a 100 psi compressor, just use compressed air with the blow out nozzle. In 37 years, I have never had to pull a refer to pull the baffle to clean it. I use a special built air nozzle that blows up from the burner. THAT will clean out the baffle and flue. FYI, you have not checked the LP pressure. THAT is usually the cause of low performance on LP after checking the burner and the orifice. Doug
