- Waterops1ExplorerMy GMC has a 30-amp fuse in the Trailer Power position. That being said, I would not want to run off just the truck UNLESS I used jumper cables as mentioned previously. Tongue jack draws up close to 25 amperes per manufacturer's info; don't want to heat up that long #10 AWG wire.
- troubledwatersExplorer IIIMy electric jack will work if the battery is dead when hooked to the 7 pin connector on the truck. Found this out the hard way. Forgot to turn off the battery disconnect switch and killed the battery, so had to plug in to get the elec jack to work the next time I went to hook up. Jack worked fine then.
- myredracerExplorer III tried this once and it didn't help...
Nice to think that you can manually operate the jack if the motor quits working. At the start of this season, our Ultrafab jack would not work for the first trip. Checked the grounds and wiring and it was fine. No problem I said to myself, I'll just grab the socket wrench out of the TT. However, the motor or shaft was frozen solid and even a breaker bar wouldn't budge it. Kinda bummed because it also has two covers, one for the jack and other over the TT. Had to pull the jack out and replace it, day before the first trip. :( - badsixExplorerMy elect. jack has a hand crank also.
Jay D. - 2MacsExplorerI have a diesel with 2 batteries and have run the trailer jack off the truck when the trailer battery was run down and would not do anything.

Most likely not due to distance and too small of wire from the truck battery. If nothing else turn the truck around and hook up a set of jumper cables to the TT batteries.

My TT with electric tongue jack used 10 gauge wire about 4 feet long with a 30 amp fuse. The trucks charge wire is too skinny and long. Also my Ram truck had a fuse on the charging wire...10 or 15 amps I think.

If your truck supplies 12 volt to the plug then it should

- MrWizardModeratormaybe .. maybe Not
How much juice/amps does the jack use when running AKA its rating
what size wire is wired to the 7 pin, AKA how much juice can the truck alternator push to the TT 7pin
How much juice will the battery suck from the 7pin trying to charge while you are trying to use the jack ?
all you can do is try.
IF it don't work, charge or replace the battery - TrackrigExplorer IIMost likely not due to distance and too small of wire from the truck battery. If nothing else turn the truck around and hook up a set of jumper cables to the TT batteries.
