Ok experts, 2010 Jayco 31.5 RLDS, I'm at the lake and everything was working fine suddenly I have no 30 or 50 amp power. I have 12 volt and 110 volt power. But it appears no 240 volt power. Everything works except the AC's. I put a volt meter on the pedestal and have power from both the 30 and 50 amp outlets. Any suggestions?

By the way, all breakers were good. I reset them all just make sure. My gut tells me the 30/50 amp feed from the converter is toast.

if you have an inverter did you check the breakers on it?

Hmmm, something's not making sense. A converter only outputs 12 volts from a 120-volt input, and the A/C's also run on 120 volts. Normally, there are no 240 volt appliances in most RV's. Could you mean an "inverter" instead that outputs 120 volts from a 12-volt input? Although the A/C's would not be connected to that, due to the high current draw. Do you have a single thermostat with a multi-zone temperature setup?

First, the converter does not have any 30/50 amp feed. The converter converts 120 vac to dc power to keep the battery charged, and to power the 12v needs of the camper.The loss of 240v power could be anything from a faulty power cord to ??? Since you have a voltmeter check the voltage at the circuit breakers. Be careful, 240v can kill you. If you have any reservations about troubleshooting 240vac, you should have an RV repair person fix your problem.

Everything in most RVs is 110V. Unless you have a European RV, you should NOT have 220-240 volts ANYWHERE! 30 or 50 amp or not. Depending on the wiring, there could be 240 V between the two hot pins on your plug, but nowhere else. There are generally two circuits in a 50A RV. one from each side of the line. Both are 110-120V, usually with two ACs there is one AC on each circuit. You have probably popped a circuit breaker somewhere. Mine has two breakers on the generator, plus two on the breaker panel inside. At the campground pedestal, many older systems just have one big 120v line to the pedestal, and it is split to both sides of the plug.

I agree that the lights dimming were key. Plus I learned a few things that I originally thought were different such as 240 volts. I had always assumed because it was a 50 amp rig it had 240 volts. Not so as I learned during my trouble shooting. Everything runs off of 110 volts. The 50 amp supply is just to keep from blowing breakers when running multiple high amp draw appliances. I don't mind learning things but not like this. I once read somewhere that the best teacher is making mistakes. Hopefully those mistake are not catastrophic.

What I think happened was that I "started", and I say I started to hook up the cables in reverse polarity which caused the convertor fuses and the stereo fuse to blow. I saw a small spark as I began to hook up and stopped. I think this is when the fuses blew. I've been sitting here working from the lake on my laptop all morning and everything else seems to be working as it should be.

you did a battery swap while plugged into shore power at home ?

always unplug from shore power, turn off generator

when swapping the batteries or pulling cables for cleaning

OK Boys and Girls, problem solved. One piece of info I neglected to tell you is that on Friday I replaced my 12v duel purpose marine/starting battery with two new Crown 6v 240ah deep cycle batteries in preparation for my future solar set up. Apparently I touched something where I shouldn't have and blew the 12v/15amp fuse for the stereo system and the three 12v/25amp fuses on the converter.

Looks like all 12v systems have been running off of battery power since about noon Friday when I did the battery replacement. I was aware of the stereo fuse right away Saturday when I arrived at the lake and tried to turn on the stereo. I replaced that fuse and thought all was well. One thing I did notice but didn't connect the dots was that the 12v lights seem a bit dimmer than normal. But that just kind of made me go hmmm...

Looks like when the 12v system got too low it wouldn't power the t-stats so the t-stats couldn't call for cool from the AC's. I replaced all three 25 amp fuses on the converter and switched everything back on. Both AC's are now working and lights are bright as can be.

Based on input from the folks above I decided to open up the compartment where the converter is hidden and that's how I found the three blown fuses. I appreciate everyone input to my issue. Once again the RV.net group jumped right in with help.

for now you can keep a battery charger connected to your battery until you can test the converter for output, as others mentioned check the fuses on the converter first

It seems you were right. The converter is not charging your battery. Either the converter has failed, the converter isn't getting power, or the converter output isn't getting to the battery. What converter do you have?

Your battery is dead and not getting charged. Fuses are a good place to start
