Extended Run Tank for Yamaha EF2000IS

Has anyone used one? I read somewhere that since the generators don't have a fuel pump, that a extended run tank won't work. But searching eBay, I came across this.

Clicky
  • The first line in the description says gravity feed. You would need to have the tank higher than the generators.

The only portables I know of that work with ER tanks are the HONDA's they have an honest to Honda fuel pump.. Yahama does not.

Yahama has other redeeming values but the Extended Run.. not on the list. .
  • I've tried the gravity feed extended run with my ef2000 ... it's a PITA to get the right "head pressure" ... tank too far above the generator overfills the carb somehow (float can't "shut off" the flow) ... tank not high enough, fuel is not drawn into generator properly.

clearing air bubbles from the fuel line gets tricky, since there's no where for them to go, other than pressurizing the gen's fuel tank, since you have replaced the cap and its vent

The parts to add a pump to the Yamaha are about $30 from Amazon, and there are how-to videos on Youtube. If you really want extended run, that's your ticket.

Which Honda models have a fuel pump?

Not sure about the fuel pump but I have twin Honda EU2200's with this dual feed 5 gallon tank. Runs for days even when I use the AC.

  • Thanks for the feedback. Probably going to pass. I use the generators about 12 hours a day for about 10 days straight on our houseboat trip. Would be nice to not fill every day but not if it isn’t going to work.
  • If you have enough time, you can to modify your generator with a fuel pump. it's pretty straight forward. The mod is nice in that it adds an aux fuel tank connection, so you don't have to use the onboard fuel tank at all.

I made the same setup myself, only I used marine fittings so the hoses come off.
  • Of course they a kit, this is America, land of the free, home of the brave. A capitalistic society where if you can make money at it, someone will figure it out and sell it. This one has a fuel pump and Pinellis power has a pretty good rep.

I made the setup for the Honda 2000 also
