Fifth Wheel Brakes Kind of Not Working

Already taken care of as stated above. Thank you though.

Try 6 Roblees in Anchorage. Probably busy, though. Also, is this a built in controller on the truck or an aftermarket unit?

So I took it to a truck and trailer shop. There was both a wire that wasn't connected properly and the brakes needed to be replaced which I had them do although the owner actually tried to talk me into doing it myself as they are so easy to replace and was explaining how to do it. The electronic brakes that is. Thanks for the help. Maybe in the future I'll be a little more adventurous but we're running behind schedule. Denali tomorrow!

Cables? I assume you must have self adjusting brakes. Still need to be properly assembled to function.

So you have even another type of controller that depends on how far the brake pedal is depressed. They have been great controllers but went out of business years ago. I couldn't come up with the instructions with a brief search, but you would do well to make an effort to find them because it can be much better than today's plug and pray models. That cable under the dash needs to be protected from shoes and damage and the instructions can help you determine if it has been compromised, and then help you with the gain adjustment.

Since we have no idea what kind of controller you have, it is hard to help. Some are time based, some use a pendulum, some use a inertia sensor and some need to be level. No need to keep it a secret.

If you haven't touched the brakes in that long, chances are that the bearings and grease seals need some attention too. It's always a good idea to pull the drums and inspect the brakes before adjustment unless you are 100% sure of their condition.

If a person is spry enough to get under their trailer, place a jack, jack the wheel off the ground drum brake adjustment is one of the simplest jobs a RVer can do. It aint rocket science and other than a jack the only tool needed is a 10 dollar brake spoon. Lacking that a flat blade screw driver can do the job in a pinch. Watch a utube video should be all that is needed for the average RVer.
