Fill void with expanding foam?

So.. I guess the pictures will not be fixed?

Friend of mine used expanding foam in his motorcycle mirror because the glass was loose and he figured that would make it stop vibrating. The foam expanded so much that it broke the glass.

I wouldn't do it, and I would recommend being very cautious if you do.

Dale Erb the insulation outfitter calculated the void fill expansion percentage on quicksilver and it did not bulge. After removing the 1-1/2 inch thick fiberglass bunting and shooting 2" of foam the R value effect was dramatic. The 16 gauge steel roof and 20 gauge steel overhead is a different animal from fiberglass. But at that time the roof was school bus yellow rather it's present OSHA white. The ceiling went from blazing hot to barely warm. The bunting had settled. I learned foaming is not a job for amateurs. Erb did the Kelley II.

OK. Looked into this a bit further as I never had the expansion foam cause issue... maybe I had low expansion and didn't realize it. As you state, there are signs that expansion foam can cause some issues with building pressure so I've changed my post you got this quote from, thx.

I have a friend that is a fiberglass expert, he is going to fix the hole, I was just wondering about filling the void with expanding foam.

When filling the hole you need to use some kind of "Backing" for the patch material.. Off hand I'd guess expanding foam is good as any.

I'm thinking, which of course is a dangerous thing for me to do...

Take fibergblass tape.. Glass it (Coat it with resin) poke a hole in it, "Stuff" it inside the hole then shoot foam in via the hole (Stick the nozzle tube through the hole) so the foam, as it expands, pushes the resin filled cloth tape against the back of the wall you holed. Layer one of the repair.

NOTE: Pay particular attention to the joke "Which of course is a dangerous thing" I have never tried this, do not know if it would work, do not know if it's a good idea, bad things might happen.. Or not.
