New to me Coachman (See signature) and I can't find how to tell when the tank is full. Yes I know about the inside gauge that shows levels of all tanks but when outside how do I know when to turn off the water as I don't want to burst a pipe inside?Also how do I know the water heater is full when I have the bypass in the correct position for getting hot water?I've been RV'ing half my life but this is the first time I've had a CLOSED system. All others had an overflow. Nothing in the Coachman book about it. Do I crack the sink faucets?Thanks for understanding.Marvin

On my Coachman. the fill port is a threaded fitting to fit a garden hose, so there is no overflow out the fill tube as there is in most other RVs. There is an overflow linked directly to the tank. You can't see it but when the tank is full, you will see the water come out, probably under the frame. Mine is directly over the back axle. Just hook her up, let it flow and turn her off when water starts splashing on the ground!

Even with a city water tank fill valve there will still be a tank overflow vent. It's full when it comes out there.

When more water is spraying out of the fill tube than is going in the tank, it's full. Don't worry, pipes won't burst.

are you sure there isn't an overflow on the fresh tank? da water has to go somewhere so if no overflow then expect to see it spilling out of the fill tube. the hot water tank takes in water as needed to keep it full.

No gravity fill? There's a discussion on the GD forum about water siphoning out of the vent tube when travelling. Hopefully the previous owner didn't put a shut-off valve on the overflow vent.

As said above, many of the bottom vented tanks will spill much of the water as you travel. Watch for a trail of water as you drive on a curvy road. My KZ had about 10 gallons of useable water after 80 miles.

My KZ vents at the gravity fill, which is about 12in above the tank. Never noticed any water loss.
